Fermata Auto arm vs arm64: Which APK Should You Download?
Open the download page and you will see more than one file for the same version. Some are labelled arm64, others just arm. Picking the wrong one is one of the most common reasons an install fails with a message such as App not installed or Package appears to be invalid. The good news is that choosing correctly takes about two minutes.
What do arm and arm64 mean?
Phones use processors based on ARM designs. Over the years the standard moved from 32-bit to 64-bit:
- arm (also written armeabi-v7a) is the 32-bit architecture. It runs on older phones.
- arm64 (arm64-v8a) is the 64-bit architecture. It is used by nearly every phone made in roughly the last eight years.
Apps that include native code, such as media engines like VLC, are compiled separately for each architecture, which is why Fermata ships separate files.
The quick answer
Download arm64. If your phone is from the last several years, that is the right file. Version 2.0.2 is published only as an arm64 build, so if you are on a modern phone there is nothing to decide.
How to check your phone
- Install a free device-info app such as CPU-Z or Droid Hardware Info from the Play Store.
- Open the System or Device tab and look for Architecture, Instruction sets or Supported ABIs.
- If the list includes
arm64-v8a, choose the arm64 file. - If you only see
armeabi-v7a, choose the arm file.
A phone can be a 64-bit device but run a 32-bit operating system; in that rare case the ABI list tells you the truth, not the marketing sheet.
Available builds and sizes
| Version | arm (32-bit) | arm64 |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0.2 | not published | 152.6 MB |
| 2.0.1 | 95.8 MB | 146.9 MB |
| 2.0.0 | 74.5 MB | 114.5 MB |
| 1.9.9 | 45.9 MB | 49.6 MB |
Newer versions are larger because they bundle more features, such as automatic subtitle generation and translation models, and more modern libraries. If storage is tight, check how much free space you have before downloading.
What if my phone is 32-bit and I want 2.0.2?
You will have to use 2.0.1 for now, since that is the newest release with an arm build. It still has SponsorBlock for YouTube and the subtitle translator, but not the Android Auto 17.3 fix. See that article for what you might miss.
Troubleshooting installation errors
- "App not installed": wrong architecture, not enough storage, or a conflicting signature from a different build. Uninstall the old app first if you previously used a differently signed version.
- "There was a problem parsing the package": the file did not finish downloading. Download it again and compare the size with the table above.
- The install button is greyed out: allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps in Settings.
- It installs but crashes on open: make sure you did not mix up files; reinstall the correct one.
Always download from official links
A wrong-sized file or a strange name is a classic sign of a fake copy. Get the APK from the download page or the official GitHub release, and read how to spot fake sites if in doubt.
